RYAN GIGGS

WALES (3rd away 2007) 130th Anniversary v New Zealand friendly 2007.

This is a genuinely rare Wales International shirt. In May 2007 Wales played New Zealand in a low key friendly at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, but the fixture was used by the FAW to celebrate the 130th Anniversary of International football at the famous North Wales Stadium -The Racecourse Ground- the oldest football stadium in the world to still stage international football. As part of the celebrations Kappa released a stylish 3rd away predominately white shirt, which according to Kappa was a very big seller as a replica. The match itself finished as a 2-2 draw.

This short sleeve shirt was match worn by Ryan Giggs in the first half of the game -he wore a long shirt shirt in the second half- and it carries all the differences from that of a replica of the same design. The replica's of this design were very different to the players shirts. I believe it is a striking shirt, that the Senior team only wore on this one occasion, hence its rarity. It has the usual match detail print under the National Crest as seen on players shirts, "SELAND NEWYDD 26-05-2007 GEM 548", but to mark the occasion the shirts had a unique sleeve badge applied to the right arm, spelling out in Welsh the honour bestowed upon the club and stadium and their connection with the FAW, plus and most importantly a huge structural difference in the material mix from that of the replica. Remember Welsh players at this time only had two shirts per game, one long sleeve and one short sleeve and Ryan wore both of his in the match. A truly rare example of an almost impossible to find players shirt and only a worn one from a real football legend!! It was obtained directly from an official to whom Ryan had given the shirt and from where i purchased it, so it carries unbeatable provenance.
