CAFU

WALES v BRAZIL Friendly 1991

Marcos Evangelista de Moraes, better known to every football fan simply as Cafu, match worn shirt from the friendly international in the Arms Park National Stadium, Cardiff on the 11th September 1991. The 1-0 win for Wales was the first, and to date only, time they have beaten the 5 times World Cup winners, was Ratcliffe's 57th cap. Cafu was substitute in the game and Kevin picked up a hamstring strain, coming off late in the match. At the final whistle both players were one of the first to head down the tunnel where Cafu, by tugging at his shirts chest, asked to exchange, which of course Kevin obliged and why you see this famous gold Brazil shirt in the Kevin Ratcliffe collection on the web site today.

Cafu, who went on to captain his country to one of those World Cup wins in 2002, was a 20 year old fledgling at international level in 1991, having made his international bow the year before. He went onto have an unbelievable 16 year international career which saw him capped 142 times, winning 2 World Cups -the other time in 1994- as well as 2 Copa America's and a further Confederations Cup success.
