BRIAN FLYNN

Home (1974) versus Luxembourg ECQ 1974

After further research it has been discovered that this is in fact Brian Flynn's debut match worn shirt from the game as a substitute against Luxembourg in a European Championship Qualifying group match, on 20th November 1974. This was the last style of shirt produced by Umbro in their first time as kit suppliers to the FAW.

The style was worn on only three occasions, all European Championship group matches at the end of 1974. It is unusual because their was no "Gorau Chwarae Cyd Chwarae" motto below the national Crest or match details embroidered above the Crest, originally making it difficult to confirm the game. It carries the small Umbro diamond logo to the right breast, only ever seen on shirts from these three matches, for outfield players- it had been on goalkeepers shirts a number of times since 1973, but another slight difference seen, even with this logo was some were blue in colour and others have been red!? Like the Bukta shirts that followed, a very difficult shirt to find for collectors. This shirt originated from a players collection purchased privately so there is no question on its provenance.
