Purple/black/silver Goalkeepers shirt versus Belgium WC Qualifier 1997

This crazy colour combination of a goalkeepers shirt was one of Neville Southall's match shirts from the 2-1 defeat to Belgium in the France 98 World Cup Qualifying game at The Arms Park, Cardiff on 29th March 1997. Looking at the shirts condition i believe it to be Neville's unused spare, which he subsequently has signed to the front. The shirt came to me from a mutual friend of Neville's to whom he gave the shirt. Further research, discussion with Nevile and ownership of his shirt collection, confirms the shirt to be from the Belgium game and not the Holland game from 6 months earlier. Within Neville's collection there are 2 van Der Sar Holland keepers shirts, both of which had been swapped by Neville with his Dutch counterpart. There is also one subtle but significant difference between the same shirt style worn against the Dutch and this shirt from the Belgium game, which clearly confirms its structural authentic.

This match was Neville's 91st cap of a record 92 Senior International appearances for Wales. At his prime, the best goalkeeper in the world, who no doubt, without the bad ankle break suffered against Republic of Ireland he would surely been the first 100 Cap Welsh International footballer.
