SPARE No.20

Away 3rd (2005-06) versus Poland 2005

This unique tribute kit to Welsh footballing legend John Charles, was made by Kappa and use as the 3rd choice shirt for the 2005/06 season. It was only even worn on two occasions, first time in a friendly versus Slovenia, appropriately at Swansea City's Liberty Stadium -Swansea being Charles' home town- and in a World Cup Qualifier away to Poland. This particular number 20 long sleeve shirt would have been an issued spare for the away 1-0 defeat in Poland on 7th September 2005. Two shirts -one long and one short sleeve- for each number up to no.25, were usually made by Kappa and the Welsh kit man for first team games at this time. As a players shirt it has the differences to replica's of the same style and is confirmed to be from the World Cup Qualifier by the Germany 2006 World Cup sleeve badge to the right arm.

The style and design colours came from all the teams John Charles played with distinction for during his illustrious career. The black and stripes of Juventus, the white of Leeds United and of course the red of his beloved country of birth, Wales. The predominance of black being chosen as a mark of respect, after his death in February 2004. I now have been fortunate enough to obtain a worn Daniel Gabbidon shirt and a long sleeve match issue Carl Fletcher shirt from the game against Poland. Therefore i am happy to trade this shirt, so if you have any interest in it please email me.
