GARETH TAYLOR

3rd Away (2002-03) versus Croatia friendly 2002

Here i have a genuinely rare Gareth Taylor match worn yellow 3rd away shirt, from the international friendly 1-1 draw against Croatia in Varazdin on 21st August 2002. Taylor replaced John Hartson as a second half 60th minute substitute and gained his 10 senior cap in the process. The game was the first international fixture of the 02/03 season, and saw the introduction of this 3rd choice away style shirt, because of the colour clash of the red & white Croatian shirts, with Wales home and away designs.

Wales and inparticular kit manufacturers Kappa have a history of producing a number of shirts that were worn on only in one match by the Senior team. This yellow style is one of those only worn in this one fixture and therefore considered to be one of the rarest shirts, along with the first home shirt design in 2000, produced by Kappa. Neither were ever sold as a replica's so only produced in limited numbers for players. This shirt saw the Italian manufacturers introduce all daffodil yellow into its colour scheme for the first time. The shirt originated directly from Gareth, given to a collector friend Wayne John at the Welsh team hotel, and from whom i purchased it. It comes with picture evidence of him handing over the shirt and Gareth has signed it to the front.
