Hummel Sky Blue (1987-90) vs Czechoslovakia 1987

This light blue Hummel manufactured goalkeepers shirt was Neville Southall's match shirt believed to be worn in the European Championship Qualifying 1-1 draw with Czechoslovakia at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham on 29th April 1987. With further research and ownership of the Neville Southall collection it is confirmed as a game where he didn't swap his shirt. Considering the fact that at the time Welsh players were only issued one match shirt per game and this shirt has the structural authenticity of the subliminated rear number, it can therefore be dated to early in the Hummel contract.

This match was Neville's 30th, of a Welsh record 92 Senior International appearances. It took a 76th minute equaliser from Port Vale's Andy Jones to salvage Wales first point in their second game of the West Germany '88 qualifying campaign. At his prime, Southall was considered by many the best goalkeeper in the world, who no doubt, without the bad ankle break suffered against Republic of Ireland 13 months before this game, would surely been Wales first ever Centurian appearance maker.
