CRAIG BELLAMY

Away 3rd (2007) 130th Anniversary v New Zealand friendly.

This is a very rare Wales International shirt. In May 2007 Wales played New Zealand in a low key friendly at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, but the fixture was used by the FAW to celebrate the 130th Anniversary of International football at the famous North Wales ground -The Racecourse is the oldest football stadium in the world to still stage international football. As part of the celebrations Kappa released a stylish 3rd away predominately white shirt, which according to Kappa was a very big seller as a replica. The match itself finished as a 2-2 draw.

This shirt was the short sleeve spare of Craig Bellamy -he scored both of Wales goals in the game- and it carries all the specifications that confirm it as a players shirt, with all the differences from that of a replica of the same design. A striking shirt, that the Senior team only wore on this one occasion, hence its rarity. It has the usual match detail print under the National Crest as seen on players shirts, "SELAND NEWYDD 26-05-2007 GEM 548", but to mark the occasion the shirts had a unique sleeve badge applied to the right arm, spelling out in Welsh the honour bestowed upon the club and stadium and their connection with the FAW, plus and most importantly a huge structural difference in the material mix from that of the replica. Remember Welsh players get only two shirts per game, one long sleeve and one short sleeve, this is Craigs short sleeve spare, but still a truly rare example of an almost impossible players shirt to find anywhere. The shirt was obtained directly from a football official from whom i purchased it, so provenance it never in question.
